The coastal town of Penarth is a good destination in itself, but it’s also a gateway into Cardiff city centre, which you can quickly reach either by car, by train or by boat.
Hop across the bay to reach some of the city’s best-loved sights, such as Cardiff Castle, the National History Museum, the Wales Millennium Centre and the Principality Stadium. Guests at Treehaven also enjoy easy access to the Wales Coast Path, which offers beautiful walking routes.
Facilities: The cottage can sleep up to seven guests. Inside, you’ll find four bedrooms in total: one king-size bedroom, one super-king, one double and one single. It’s a perfect choice for groups of friends or families with grown-up children.
There’s private parking available for two cars, and the cooking area is well equipped for rustling up delicious group dinners. However, if you can’t face cooking, there’s a superb local pub just 0.1 miles away – ideal!
Yr Hen Ysgol
Location: Pontardawe, near Swansea
Great for: Family getaways in an idyllic hideaway
This lovely cottage is set within the grounds of Plas Cilbebyll Manor House. It’s just outside the small hamlet of Cilybebyll, which is near Pontardawe (a small town close to Swansea).
The cottage has a beautifully secluded location but is well connected to tourist attractions, especially if you’re travelling by car. Head out for day trips into the city centre of Swansea or Cardiff, or visit the coast for a day at the beach with the kids.
Facilities: Yr Hen Ysgol is a two-bedroom cottage, with one double room and one twin room. It’s perfectly equipped with everything a family of four could need, including a kitchen for home cooking, a comfortable sitting room with a wood-burning stove, a washing machine and dryer and a large private garden.
Guests are also welcome to stroll around the beautiful grounds of the manor house, which stretch to 100 square acres. If the weather isn’t quite good enough to enjoy the outdoors, you can relax in the property’s orangery instead – bring the outdoors in!
Oak Tree Farm
Location: Wenvoe
Great for: Pet-friendly stays in the Vale of Glamorgan
Looking for a characterful cottage that lets pets tag along for the ride? Book a trip to Oak Tree Farm. You’ll find this cottage in the village of Wenvoe, South Wales, between Barry and Cardiff.

Facilities: This three-bedroom cottage has a perfect location and sleeps up to six guests, as well as two well-behaved dogs! The master bedroom has a comfortable king-size bed, the second has a regular double, and the third has a four-foot double, perfect for two littluns.
Spend a cosy evening in the sitting room with its striking fireplace, or enjoy family dinners in the kitchen and dining area. The main bathroom features a gorgeous shower as well as a roll-top bath, ideal for soaking sore muscles after a long day of exploring South Wales’ highlights and the Vale of Glamorgan.
Downstairs Flat Crow’s Nest
Location: Barry
Great for: Cosy getaways with river views
If it’s self-catering Barry accommodation you’re after, this flat two-person flat is a great choice. Here, guests can enjoy trips out to Barry Island (anyone fancy re-enacting a few lines of Gavin and Stacey?), but it’s also easy to head into Cardiff to explore the city’s highlights. Cardiff Castle and Sophia Gardens are just some of the excellent sights in Cardiff that you’ll be well placed to visit.
Fans of the seaside are in luck; the closest beach is just a 5-minute walk away. Barry is also very close to the wonderful Glamorgan Heritage Coast, a perfect location for romantic coastal walks or bike rides. Head out and start exploring the best bits of South Wales!
Facilities: This ground-floor flat is an excellent choice for couples. The king-size bed will give you both plenty of room to stretch out, and the open-plan living area gives the flat a very spacious feel. The flat also has a well-equipped kitchen, a dining table and a lovely lounge area, with comfortable seating where you can curl up and chill out.
If you’re lucky enough to get some sunshine during your stay, you’ll love the outdoor seating area, which boasts spectacular views over the harbour and out to sea. This apartment really does have a superb location.
If this flat is booked up for your preferred dates, don’t worry – you can always try the upstairs flat instead!
The Cottage
Location: Creigiau
Great for: Group holidays in a characterful cottage
Set 20 miles south of the rolling hills of the Brecon Beacons National Park, this lovely cottage has all the benefits of a stay outside of the city centre. It’s easy to visit places like the Principality Stadium, or to spend an evening out at St David’s Hall – but it’s also very close to the rolling countryside that South Wales is known for.
Creigiau is a traditional countryside village with a stunning rural location, and The Cottage itself is set within the grounds of the beautiful Pencoed House Estate. It really is gorgeous.
Facilities: The property itself has four bedrooms and can sleep eight guests. Two rooms are doubles (one of them a king-size), and two are twins, so this is a great choice for groups of friends or a large family. There is ample space for everyone you want to bring along.
The large living area and spacious kitchen are excellently equipped, and you’ll also be able to enjoy a private garden, complete with patio furniture and a barbecue – ideal for summer holidays in the sunshine!
The Bridal Room
Location: Creigiau
Great for: Romantic retreats for two
This adorable little cottage is part of the same estate as the eight-person cottage above, the Pencoed House Estate. Drive north to explore the Brecon Beacons, east to visit Cardiff or Newport, south to head to the seaside or southeast to enjoy the gorgeous Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
When you’re done exploring the highlights of South Wales, you can head to the local pub, which is just over 1 mile away from the property. Take a romantic stroll and have a drink with your loved one. Cheers!
Facilities: Both the interior and exterior of this cottage are ideal for romance. Outside, you’ll find a decked patio area, with sun loungers and an outdoor dining table where you can bask or feast al-fresco style in the sunshine. Head inside to find two cosy armchairs in the open-plan living area, which also features a smart TV with a Netflix subscription.
The living space leads to the kitchen, which is well equipped despite its small size. The bedroom area has a superbly comfortable king-size bed, with luxurious bedding for that extra something special. The bathroom features a large walk-in shower and a heated towel rail. The Bridal Room really is a great choice for loved-up couples who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
