We’ve launched late-summer holidays with Haven from just £79 per break. To celebrate, here’s our list of short breaks that will inspire you to getaway in September and October
Tasty food festivals
For a fantastic food festival in September head to Cornwall. Newquay’s Fish Festival (12-14 September) attracts thousands to the harbour to sample delicious seafood and watch local chefs rustle up amazing dishes.
In Truro, the Cornwall Food and Drink Festival (26-28 September) has a line-up celebrating new restaurants, delicious local produce and pop-up kitchens featuring the region’s best chefs.
If it’s the famous pasty that gets your mouth watering, the only event for you is the Cornish Pasty Festival in Redruth (12-14 September), where the humble dish is given a starring role.
To taste a piece of the action this September, make sure that Haven’s Perran Sands in Newquay or Riviere Sands in Hayle are on the menu.
Explore an iconic seaside town
In a poll of BreakFree customers, Weymouth was voted your favourite seaside town. This sailors’ paradise in Dorset has a super-fine sandy beach on the edge of a beautiful bay, with a sweet little harbour and stunning scenery. Haven’s Littlesea, Weymouth Bay and Seaview parks are all close by.
Second on your list was Scarborough in North Yorkshire, which offers archetypal old-fashioned seaside fun. This charming town is full of character – stroll along the seafront to enjoy the famous spa and beaches and then take a tram to the top of the cliffs above. Blue Dolphin, Primrose Valley and Reighton Sands are great bases on the North Yorkshire coast.
Events packing passion
For a taste of real Scottish culture, head to the Peebles Highland Games (6 September) where strong men chuck heavy hammers, toss cabers and go head to head in a 70-yard dash in their kilts. Seton Sands in East Lothian is close by (but out of range of the cabers)!
Every year hundreds of hardy belly boarders take to the waters off Cornwall’s north coast to compete in the World Bellyboarding Championships (7 September). Winning comes a distant second to looking good and riding your wooden board with style. For a grandstand view of the action, base yourself at Haven Perran Sands.
Holiday parks that have it all
If your ideal short break involves a few days of lolling and lazing, and why not, it’s a getaway after all, pick a holiday park with plenty going on. Hafan y Mor near Pwllheli in North Wales has an indoor pool with waterslides, flumes and a wave machine, and a sports dome with adventure golf (a crazier version of crazy golf) and archery. Plus, there’s a coastal path dropping down to a small beach, so you can amble to the sea in no time.
If you’re prepared to get out a little bit, Haven’s Seashore in Great Yarmouth is a great bet. The park has a big choice of facilities including an indoor pool, crazy golf and a soft play area for little ones, but there is also a large sandy beach across the way, plus a horse racing circuit and a challenging links golf course nearby. Want more? The seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a walk away.
Golf for it
Lots of Haven holiday parks have par 3 pitch and putt courses where keen golfers can fire off a few practice shots and beginners can happily hack away. Our favourites include Reighton Sands near Filey in North Yorkshire for the sea views and Hopton, for its serene setting in Great Yarmouth.
