We loved this fishy tale from the summer holidays.
A family on holiday in Devon were shocked when the dolphin they had been admiring from their boats delivered them a 10lb cod for their dinner.
The friendly dolphin had been playing in the water before diving down and reappearing with the tasty treat.
After first leaving the fish 20ft from the group, the helpful dolphin nudged his prize towards the family until Lucy Watkins (14) was able to scoop the cod from the water.
And as Lucy and her grandparents sat wondering whether to accept the gift or give it back, the dolphin dived again and resurfaced with its own succulent treat – a seabass which it was soon tucking into.
Lucy, who was on holiday with her family in Combe Martin, said: “Everyone was watching on the beach and we caused quite a stir when we paddled in with the cod.”
The 10lbs whopper was taken back to their holiday home where Lucy and Nan Nina cooked it for their tea.
Combe Martin locals have fallen in love with the dolphin who, makes regular appearances and has now been christened Dave.
The UK’s coast is a surprisingly good place to catch a glimpse of dolphins.
- Take a boat trip off the Dorset coast and you could see white-beaked dolphins, harbour porpoises and basking sharks.
- Cardigan Bay off the Wales coast has its own resident population of 300 bottlenose dolphins.
- In Cornwall, Lizard Point, Gwennap Head and Cape Cornwall are good for dolphin-spotting
