Our favourite Halloween holidays and Spring breaks in 2013

That’s it, no more summer, so no point in thinking about holidays until next year then. Right? No, no, no – there are loads of exciting events taking place outside of the so called summer months so to abandon Autumn and early Spring as ‘no-holiday zones’ would be a big mistake.

To show you what we mean we’ve created a list of our favourite events taking place across the UK in October 2012 and from March to May 2013, and selected nearby holiday parks which will make a great base for your stay.

Plus, and this is the best bit, we’re offering holidays from only £10 per person per short break, including late dates for October and early bookings for 2013 – find out how to take part below.

So, whether scaring yourself silly at Newquay Zoo, or running through mud in Maldon, here’s a few of our favourite events in Autumn and Spring 2013.

Halloween holidays

If you’re looking for an October half term break with you little monsters, these Halloween holidays are fang-tastic.

Eden Project holds a Little Monsters’ Ball (30 & 31 October) with fancy dress, a bone shaking disco, a wishcraft tent for making positive potions, wands and protection charms, spooky storytelling and there’s a spine tingling ice rink, plus the usual brilliance of the Eden Project biodomes.

Newquay Zoo’s Halloween Boo Party (31 October) brings scary witches, black cats and wizards to the zoo with plenty of trick or treating and ghastly games for everyone who comes along. But which is scariest, the seasonal spooks or the creepy creatures from the reptile house!

Where to stay: Trevella Park, Perran Sands.

Spring 2013 holidays

The Maldon Mud Race in Essex (April 2013) see hundreds of people plunging through the River Blackwater’s estuary up to their neck in mud, plodding, glooping and crawling their way along the course. The smartest competitors tape on their trainers to avoid losing their footwear to the muddy suction. Great fun to watch, even better to take part in.

Where to stay: Steeple Bay.

At the other end of the scale is the pretty Cherry Blossom Festival in the Alnwick Garden in Northumberland (weekends in April 2013). Every year the garden marks the start of spring and the arrival of the beautiful Japanese Taihaku blossom with a festival of workshops and performances with a Japanese theme. Don’t miss the twinkling lanterns on the pond and the flying kites.

Another tip, if you want to spook out your hubby, take him to the Poison Garden and talk knowingly about the deadly plants on display…

Where to stay: Cresswell Towers, Sandy Bay.

The South West Food and Drink Festival (26-28 April) takes place in the grounds of Exeter’s ancient castle and is spread across the courtyard and grounds. Among  the attractions on the menu are a Real Ale festival, Food is Fun Tepees, a Little Cookies area for children, plus TV chefs perform demos and there is live music at two After Dark events.

Where to stay: Dawlish Sands, Golden Sands
