Haven has bought a new holiday park in Yorkshire: Thornwick Bay in Flamborough near Bridlington.
The park is one of four Haven holiday destinations on the Yorkshire coast – alongside Primrose Valley, Reighton Sands and Blue Dolphin – so we asked general manager David Eccles what makes Thornwick Bay special?
How is work progressing for your opening?
“We are full speed ahead with a £10million investment programme that includes a new swimming pool, entertainment venue, an activity barn, play parks and a cafe bar.”
Tell us what to expect at Thornwick Bay?
“Thornwick Bay is going to be a bit different to other Haven parks. We are aiming to make the most of our natural surroundings so we’ll be ramping up our Nature Rockz programme to include even more opportunities to get closer to nature with fossil casting, guided cave exploration and plenty of green open spaces for kids to run around.
“Families will be encouraged to explore the local area, so we’ll be offering guided walks and bike hire, plus tours by Segway and Nordic walking.”
It sounds like outdoor activities will play a big part of holidays at Thornwick Bay?
“Absolutely. There’s also a well-stocked fishing lake, guided sea tours by local fisherman, and we have a nature trail for guests to follow.
“We’ll also provide some of the more unusual activities that prove so popular at other Haven parks, including archery, fencing and target shooting, with mini versions for toddlers.”
What about entertainment?
“We’re going to feature ‘Covent Garden’ style musical street theatre, an outdoor cinema, campfire stories and even medieval jousting during the summer holidays.
“We’ll host craft sessions such as pic ‘n’ paint and sand art at our new Activity Barn.
“All our activities are aimed at offering families something a bit different to what they might normally expect from a Haven park.”
Will you be offering children’s clubs and evening entertainment?
“Thornwick will present events to entertain the whole family. The cast of Thornwick Theatre Company will sing, dance and act in stage productions most evenings, and they will be complemented with some super visiting acts including bands, tributes and comedians.”
Tell us about the local area
“We are just minutes from Flamborough Head, the impressive 80m high cliffs that are home to breeding sea bird colonies. There are two secluded bays that are perfect for beach fishing and for spotting marine mammals such as porpoises and seals.
“And just along the coast is Bempton Cliffs, one of the best places in the UK for rock pooling.”
