Holidays aren’t exclusively for summer – here are 10 reasons why you should treat yourself to a short break this October.
/ Christmas is a long way off and there are no bank holidays in between – so you a need a short break in October to relax, recharge and refresh.
/ October is a wonderful time to be outdoors. The countryside looks totally different in October, as leaves change colour and mornings start with mellow mists – so why not take a few days off and go exploring.
/ October brings with it lots of amazing wildlife spotting opportunities, from rutting deer to migrating birds. When male deer rut they click their teeth, scrape the ground and engage in fierce pushing fights to establish seniority for mating – dramatic displays that can be seen throughout parks and woodlands in October. Migrating birds start heading south in the autumn and there are many great vantage points along the UK coast to see the action – take a look at our guide to birdwatching holidays in the UK to find out more.
/ Conkers! Think of how much fun you used to have playing outdoors. Playing conkers, hide and seek, kicking leaves, splashing through puddles. You’re never too old to play, and your kids will love you for it.
/ Make Halloween even spookier and more special. Lots of holiday parks put on special events for the Halloween period, with monster balls, fancy dress and pumpkin carving among the activities on offer at many destinations. See our guide to Halloween holiday parks for more details.
/ There are loads of great festivals taking place in October, with many of them based around our favourite subject of food. As well as being able to buy speciality foods, these festivals are a great chance to talk to chefs, taste test loads of different dishes and even take part in cooking master-classes. See our guide to October food festivals for more details.
/ Treat your pet to a holiday. Dogs go free with all Park Holidays breaks in October.
/ As the warmth of summer fades away and the nights draw in we can all do with a dose of fun. Holiday parks with indoor pools, kids clubs and lively entertainment are a great chance to treat the kids, or yourself, to a few days of the fun factor.
/ See attractions you’ve always talked of visiting without the big queues. Now that the school holidays are over everywhere gets quieter, so you can go to theme parks, zoos, aquariums and all sorts of fascinating places without the queues of July and August.
/ Kids love bug hunts and in October woodlands are teeming with insect life. Shake trees, turn logs over and peer into undergrowth to spot and identify all sorts of creepy crawlies.
